Bugs of all sorts !

We have been recovering from the departure of Gram by checking out bugs of all sorts. We hooked up with some other locals not in school at the Sanborn Youth Science Institute to get a look at all things crawly.

Mitch was fascinated by this working bee hive. Our guide challenged us to find the Queen .. we thought it way more fun to watch the pollen jocks heading back to the hive with their sacs full of pollen ..

KJ liked the silk worms .. and seeing their "suckers" on the magnified screen ..




And there was this charming little critter who enchanted us for sometime one afternoon. 

KJ was sure it was trying to kiss him cause that's how close he was to make sure he caught all the details of snail movement ..

I do not have photos of the nastiest bug we encountered cause it was flu like and no one wants to see those kinda photos .. however here is a look at how the boys made up for a less then fun weekend 

I left my heart in San Francisco

.. I have long known this was a song that reminded my mom of her dad and so it was with great happiness that we were able to get a trip in to San Fran while Gram was still here.

First stop, Pier 39, where there is alway free entertainment

You will notice as the show neared the end the male performers removed their shirts perhaps in hopes of upping the amount of cash they raked in (Mitch had tons of fun predicting just how much they went home with and Gram was willing to part with some of her Canadian money)

There was some necessary foot massaging after feet fell asleep watching the performance 

There were this guy in gold clothing with black underneath, harassing passer by's and attempting some form of dance that was horrifying and interesting all at the same time.

And the golden sea lion statue that required climbing

And for mom's sock fetish

We had to stop by the "famous Sea Lion viewing dock" with no preparation for just what that entailed ..

Seriously docks full of talking, bathing, wrestling Sea Lions of all shapes and sizes (and benches full of clicking, filming humans of all shapes and sizes)

And when we saw that there was a Buba Gump Shrimp Restaurant we new where we would eat. I tell you this was quite the experience .. from the movie playing through out the restaurant, to a menu full of movie character favorites to waiters testing out Forest Gump Movie trivia .. And if you want service you simply flip your "Run Forest Run " placard over to read "Stop Forest Stop" It was surreal ...

I do regret not picking up at least a few of these to sell at Life is Good (at least one for my own home would have made good sense)

My face says it all .. by far the most putrid bathroom I have ever entered (and I have squatted over holes in a subway station in Tokyo)

We made if over the Golden Gate Bridge the proof below (Mitch and I are in the car we are used to warmer temps in Santa Clara)

And finally we were pretty sure these were Black Hawk fans we spotted while stuck in traffic on the way home, so we started hurling insults their way .. just in case you

Night Life

.. since Gram decided to stay on longer we thought we would take her out and show her a little of the night life around here (secretly excluding Puck and my date the night before we had done very little in terms of night lifing ourselves)

First we piled in to the big Yellow Jelly Bean ( I wonder if Mitch knew he was in the shot)

We headed to Santana Row which is a funky couple of streets where everything costs more just cause it is there perhaps Santa Clara's try at Rodeo Drive?

Gram of course was taken in by the Palm Trees

The primary event for us was people watching (though we refrained from people photographing as we stood out enough in our less then matching, high heel-less, expensive outfits)


Though we did pose for a few photos opts ourselves .. with a variety of different eyes behind the camera

We found what at first appeared to be a green space ... 

 but there was no fooling this Canadian .. "this stuff isn't real!"

Still it made a great spot for more people watching and a great game of tag ..

And we closed the night out with a trip to the top of the parkade to see what things looked like from there. Oh ya, we know how to do it up !!

Secret Agents

.. it was thrust upon me the other day .. that I was head of the Secret Agents Place and required to hire and train new recruits .. here's a look at the potential agents ..

Shannon and the boys were bold enough to brave the cold water in order to battle the waves .. They did loose the battle more then once!
