Stop Motion

Here is Mitchel's first ever film ..

And the fun continues

Its hard not to wonder what the neighbors think when they look out their window ... or drive by and see this! The boys were thrilled to actually get a chance to sit on the roof and toss eggs. The intended recipient of the eggs a bucket of water. No luck in getting the eggs in the water, however, we discovered grass is more forgiving then cement .. as half the eggs survived the toss.

Here is where the idea began .... at the great Egg Drop in Nanaimo, the challenge to create a container to protect an egg when dropped to cement from a top a ladder.

First week of NOT back to school

The boys and I continued to embrace the joy of living a life outside of schedules. This week has continue to be full of Star Wars as the boys negotiate their way through Lego Star Wars. I am in awe of their abilities and the depth of understanding they have built in a short period of time. I can't keep up any longer. Mitchel will often pull the control out of my hand, as I am not moving fast enough. This whole gaming thing is a huge lesson in letting go for me.

We had tons of fun with GOOP one day as well. The activity began indoors with water, vinegar, cornstarch and vinegar, however it was quickly moved outdoors when the real fun kicked in. The boys each used a box of baking soda a liter of vinegar and then they added the cornstarch and water. I am sure once the rains of fall and winter begin I will rediscover the cement on the pathway!!

The fun we had with the a package of Glo Sticks was beyond anything I would have imagined. It all began of course with glo stick dancing in the darkness of my bedroom. This quickly led to the front lawn where the craziness exploded. Eventually we ended up in a rousing game of Hide and Glo Seek. The idea was the hider would distribute 14 glo sticks about while the others were out of sight. Once the call came we would burst around the corner and scramble about to find the hidden sticks. Nothing but fun and laughter, deep in to the dark of the night. I am thankful that the neighbors continue to tolerate our late night antics.

Bike Ramps and Lavender/Lemonade Stands

Here are a few quick shots of the boys and there latest creative pursuits.

With the introduction of two wheel biking the boys got the idea to build a few ramps to test out their skills on.

The boys both opened bank accounts and now they are looking for ways to make more cash! Shortly after riding their ramps, Mitchel turned one of the ramps in to a homemade Lemonade stand. He then reasoned that since it was not so hot out, perhaps he should find something more appealing to offer potential customers. Shortly after my dried Lavender was up for sale and when a sunny day arrived a sign was made to cover the word Lavender and Lemonade sales began!

The world without bedtime ...

A while back we decided the whole idea of parent imposed bedtime was not working in our house. There was a lot of yelling, threatening and stuff that simply did not mesh with our day time parenting approach. I am amazed since we made the shift, by the sheer volume of exciting activities that arrive in the time that used to be "bedtime". We knew we were on the right track when for the first time in his life Mitchel said "I'm tired, let's go to bed." Evidence that indeed children can listen to their bodies just as well as the rest of us ... or that they haven't learned to ignore those important cues (food for more thought).

Here are a few of the things that have occurred after dark in our home. Makinley took his training wheels off and went on his first solo bike ride! Now that was quite an feet in the twilight of a busy day.

Fires in the fire pit have become a huge part of our lives. Mitchel knows how to light the fire on this own. Not only the lighting part, the chopping kindling, building part as well. Often I am finishing up inside when I hear the crackle of the fire and know it is time to find the marshmellows.

We have also painted skateboards, rid fruit trees of pesky critters, made music, danced, watched movies, gone on long bikes rides, laughed and truly enjoyed our freedom from the clock.
